Coming in Summer of 2007 We are getting ready to install a Solar Hot Water system here on site and will have the data to share with our clients in 2007. The system will be used to supplement the current propane hot water tank that is used via radiant floor tubing to heat our facility and on-site home. Because we have been heating with propane in the past, we know exactly what it cost. Next spring we will have real world numbers to see what we saved by using Solar Hot Water. The installation should begin in late October.
Heat from sunlight At our latitudes, our sun shines for up to 4000 hours a year and delivers more energy than we require. Modern solar heating systems can use this solar energy directly. Our solar heating systems get the optimum heat from the sun – even when it’s less sunny. Regardless whether the heat supply is provided with gas, oil or electricity, a solar hot water system is the perfect addition. Heat for baths and living rooms Solar energy can be used for supplying hot water and space heating. Even a small solar heating system can, at our latitudes, cover up to 70 % of a household’s average annual hot water demand here in the North Eastern USA. Generally, a solar heating system is so designed that up to 100 % of the demand is covered in summer, with the water being pre-warmed in the transitional periods such as spring and autumn. In summer you can therefore completely switch off your conventional heating boiler. Particularly interesting for your purse is the possibility of connecting your washing machine and dishwasher to the hot water circulation system. Not only is the environment spared the CO2 emissions but you also reduce the consumption of expensive electrical energy. A larger collector surface area is required for solar heating systems for space heating. Conclusion If it’s your roof under which you’re living, use the energy that shines on it. Nobody can charge you for this energy. |
