National Tour of Solar Buildings - Saturday October 2 from 1000(10am) to 1600(4 pm)

There is NO preregistration required for this event & it's FREE!!

Finger Lakes-Rochester area homes/business owners have reduced or in some cases, eliminated their dependence on utility provided energy through conservation and/or by generating electricity through solar and/or wind power. The general public is greatly encouraged to tour these home/business’ and see first hand how renewable energy works in New York State!

The homes/business owners are participating in the 2010 Green Buildings Open House, featuring the ASES National Tour of Solar Buildings sponsored by the American Solar Energy Society and locally by Solar & Wind FX Inc.

Microwaves and stoves without digital clocks (these clocks always draw electricity)

Passive Solar Design

        South facing windows that allow sunlight to enter and heat the house in the winter
Overhangs that prevent the hot sun from entering in the summer

 
Thermal mass (brick walls, tile floors on concrete slabs) that retains  the heat of the sun and keeps the house warm in winter, cool in summer
Insulation that keeps the heat from escaping in winter and from entering in the summer
PolySteel and Logix Insulated concrete forms and Icynene spray insulation
